Zealand Security Intelligence Service Amendment Bill and recom-
mends by majority that it be passed with the amendments shown.
1969 (the principal Act) to provide the New Zealand Security Intel-
ligence Service with the authority to use modern technology in the
performance of its functions. This would mean the Security Intel-
ligence Service could use electronic tracking devices to undertake
its surveillance work and the range of information that the Service
could intercept or collect (by warrant) would be expanded to include
email addresses, phone numbers, user account identifiers, and Inter-
net protocol addresses and storage accounts. The bill would stream-
line the requirements for the issue of warrants and clarify the nature
of the protection from liability given to persons executing warrants
issued under the principal Act.
